Now YouTubers will be able to add new life to their content. They will get the tool to edit long videos in shorts.
Short videos created from VODs will be linked back to the original video in a longer format so that people watching their shorts can also watch the original video.
To enhance the user experience, Google-owned streaming platform YouTube has announced that users can now convert their long videos into shorts by adding a new ‘Edit in a Short’ tool to their iOS and Android apps.
With this new update, which is now running on iOS and Android devices, users can now convert up to 60 seconds from their existing long-form YouTube videos and convert them into shorts.
YouTube shorts are now being viewed by more than 1.5 billion sign-in users every month, which have been viewed more than 30 billion times a day.
The company said that this update will give users a new way to add new life to their classic content and add to their audience.
If users choose a part of their video that is less than 60 seconds, they can shoot additional videos with a shorts camera as well as upload more videos from their gallery to create 60-second shorts if needed.
The company noted that only original creators will be able to import their long-format videos in shorts because the tool is not available for other creators to use in their content.
Short videos created from VoDs will be linked back to the original video with a longer format so that people watching their shorts can also watch the original video.
Google has seen encouraging results in its initial monetization efforts on the short-video-making platform YouTube Shorts.
Philip Schindler, senior vice president, and chief business officer of Alphabet (Google’s parent company), said this week that consumers are growing and consuming short-form videos and they are watching them on several platforms, including YouTube.
Schindler said during an Arnig call with analysts, “We’re seeing good user engagement on YouTube. The early results of monetization of shorts are also encouraging, and we are excited about the opportunities here.”
