Kali Movie, a forthcoming documentary movie has flashed irritation Poster after it featured a portrayal of Goddess Kali with a Dignity banner and a cigarette.
In a tweet, Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai shared this poster on Saturday, July 2, informing her that she is super thrilled to convey the release of her new film. The poster image for her Kali movie depicts a female wrapped in a getup comparing the divinity smoking a cigarette with a Dignity flag carried in her hands.
Leaving a Backlash sparkled almost instantly, including the hashtag #ArrestLeenaManimekal trending shortly when she posted the tweet. Several Twitter users also intimidated her in their responses, with some sending death threats and different terrible messages.
A criticism was registered by the north Indian state authority of Uttar Pradesh on July 5, Tuesday for the “discourteous depiction” of the Hindu god.
Vinit Goenka, Bharatiya Janata Party representative tweeted writing that the depiction is an insult to all Indians as Maa Kali is honored as Shakti. Presenting her in this way is breaking the sentiments of Indians across the globe and not just Hindus.
BBC news also reported on July 12, saying that the Indian court calls director Leena Manimekalai concerning the controversial Kali Movie Poster. The Indian High Commission in Canada had also forced the organizers of Rhythms of Canada to remove the “annoying” poster.
Director Manimekalai was also interviewed by Times Of India where she told that the kali movie covers Kali Goddess when she seems on the Toronto streets.
Later she requested audiences to watch the kali movie first, stating that they will love Leena Manimekalai after watching this film.
Leena told to the BBC that the depiction of the Kali advocates humanity and adopts diversity. She expressed that she illustrates Kali in her liberal perspective being a filmmaker and poet.

Party leaders and multiple political party leaders have badly denied the poster documentary ‘Kaali’. Responding to the immense outcry over the controversial poster of the kaali movie, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Shiv Sena leader told that every religion must be appreciated and the manner Goddess Kali has been depicted in the poster is not inappropriate.
Madhya Pradesh, BJP leader Narottam Mishra carried out powerful protests, declaring that the state administration might restrict Manimekalai’s film.
A giant debate exploded after Leena tweeted a poster of ‘Kaali’. Voicing on the topic, the Madya Pradesh home minister expressed that illustrating Kali Mata in such a smoking cigarette is unacceptable and endorsed forbidding the movie and bringing legal moves against the filmmaker.
